I want to tell you how grateful I am to the staff at Maria’s Italian Kitchen on Pico West Los Angeles. Things could have ended pretty badly for my family on the evening of Thursday, June 4 if it weren’t for the staff, and in particular, for one of the busboys. My son and I were visiting from Rock Island, Illinois and were staying with my 93-year-old father-in-law. We had a lovely dinner at Maria’s. My sister-in-law had insisted that he could scoot into a booth when we first arrived. Little did we know, however, that in scooting out of the booth, he would lose his wallet- at least, I think that’s what happened. We started out toward the car and luckily were walking very slowly. A young man came running up to us from the restaurant and presented us with my father-in-law’s wallet. The busboy didn’t even wait for a thank you, and ran back to the restaurant immediately. The busboy, and any other staff member involved, saved us so much grief! Instead of bringing to mind a pleasant evening that we were able to spend together at Maria’s, June 4 could have been remembered as a day of loss and substantial aggravation for my father-in-law, and of personal embarrassment to me since it was I who had invited my father-in-law to dinner. You can understand why I feel compiled to write my thanks to Maria’s. I’m sure you demand honesty of your employees, but I also think that in this case honesty was coupled with concern for your customers and with quick action as well. A very nice, family-run restaurant. Great for families and people with kids of all ages as well as a casual night out for 2. Service was fast and friendly. The full bar and many menu selections offer lots of variety from basic pizza and pasta to risotto and other Italian favorites. Will definitely be back. It was Sat. night at 6:00 PM and it wasn't too crowded to beseated. By the time we left at 7:30 the place was packed,Customers waiting in line. Madelyn, I hosted a dinner party for 20 people last night at your West LA restaurant, and had a wonderful time. As always, the food, service, and ambiance were great. You have an outstanding employee there, which is why I’m writing this email. I planned the party with Nikki, and must tell you she was exceptional. With only 4 days advanced notice, and another party going on at the same time, Nikki took care of everything. She guided me with suggestions from wine to salads, to entrees to desert, developed a beautiful pre-printed menu for us, and had the tables set perfectly. Throughout the entire process Nikki was knowledgeable, professional, friendly, enthusiastic, and eager to help. She was truly a pleasure to work with, and a tribute to your organization. Hi. My wife and I are huge fans of the food you serve!! We have been turning our friends on to your restaraunt for the past year since we found you. I'm half italian from New York city and my wife Bree is from New Jersey. Your food is the closest thing to my grandmother's I've found since she died a few years ago. She was also from Napoli. I used to live in Sherman Oaks, right around the corner from Maria's, on Dixie Canyon Avenue. I lived in a condo there for 10 years and frequented Maria's (I had been to Maria's quite a bit before when I lived over on Coldwater Canyon) and I was always at the AA meetings at Radford up the street, so we used to go quite regularly. It was a very special place to have great food and get together with great friends. Almost a year ago, I sold my condo and moved across the country to Asheville, NC and there isn't anything like Maria's here. I miss Maria's and my friends...I also catered some wonderful parties for family/friends from Maria's. So my "Maria's Memories" are very very special to me. Thanks for all the joy you bring to friends and families. It isn't just about the food, it is the welcoming atmosphere, the wonderful staff -- wait staff and managers -- that make it a 2nd home. One of my best friends is celebrating a big birthday in May, and I couldn't think of anything to get her until I remembered our "farewell dinner" at Maria's (our place) right before I left. An enormous thank you for the very special dinner you served for our group of 18 people on Monday, December 19th. They had a wonderful time with your delicious food, excellent service and very careful planning. Almost everyone in the party is looking forward to returning to Maria?s Restaurant whenever possible. As you can see from this letter, we came back tonight! It was a real pleasure to have all of you (including the cooks of course) make our evening so very enjoyable!
We recently had a surprise 75th birthday party for my mother-in-law & needed a completely flourless cake. YOU DID IT! It was the hit of the party.
